I have Windows XP. Beside my name by my log on icon.. it
tells me that i have so many unread messages from my
hotmail account. I do not want this message to show up
there. My freind used my computer and it is telling me
that she has 84 unread messages. How can i get rid of
that message? Thank you for your help

Kathy,

Obtain and install the Windows XP version of TweakUI. Download it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Open TweakUI (it's in Start -> Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP).
1. Click "Logon" > Unread mail > uncheck ""Show unread mail on Welcome
Screen"
2. Goto "Repair" > Repair Unread Mail Count and click "Repair Now"

Kathy,

You can use Tweak UI, which has been suggested, or you can change the
Registry setting by the following;

To change it manually - Start/Run/Regedit:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.
