Firefox seems to have taken control of some applications as the browser of
choice. I removed Firefox using the "add/remove program" feature in the
Control panel but it still appears as references throughout the XP registry.
How do I get rid of it?

Hi the big ogre :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Go to where you installed it in Windows Explorer. Default is C:\Program
Files\ Firefox, and remove that folder. These instructions leave your
profile in place in case you install Firefox again in the future. If you
wish to remove your Firefox Profile folder
(http://texturizer.net/firefox/edit.html#profile),follow these instructions:

Locate your Application Data folder, this is usually under Documents and
Settings\<username>\Application Data. You may need to make hidden files
visible in Windows Explorer, since the Application Data folder is hidden. If
your username is "Joe", and your Documents and Settings folder is on C:\,
your profile folder is here: C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\Application
Data\Phoenix. Delete the Phoenix folder to remove your profile data.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Configure your preferred browser to check whether it is the default
browser when it is run. E.g., with IE, Tools, Internet Options,
Programs, and check the checkbox at the bottom of the dialog box.
