How do I remove a toolbar on left side of email in Outlook?

When using Outlook to send an email I've suddenly encountered a vertical
toolbar on the left side of the email message. The toolbar has items such
as: File, Edit, View, Insert, etc.

It does not show up on the sent email, but I'd like to remove it. Can
someone tell me how to?
