Before formatting my hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP, I used the Files
and Settings Transfer Wizard to transfer my data to a networked home
computer. Everything transferred back except outlook.pst so I've lost my
saved emails and my contacts list. Two things may have caused this: (1) My
old Outlook was 2000 or 2002 and my new Outlook is 2003, and (2) My username
was changed from Christopher to Christopher.CHRIS in the transfer for some
reason so the path to outlook.pst is changed. I now get the following error
message when I press the Address Book or try to add a new contact: "The
address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this
address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you
do not have permissions. For information on how to remove this folder from
the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office Outlook Help".
I can live with losing the emails and contacts but I'd like Outlook to stop
giving the error message. There are now 2 Contacts folders in the Address
Book. I've gone to the Microsoft site where you install the address book,
mark the Contacts folder for use with the Address Book and make sure that
contacts have email addresses but this doesn't help. Windows won't allow me
to change my username back to Christopher. I should have saved outlook.pst as
a separate file rather than relying on the transfer wizard which saves
everything in one gigantic unreadable file. Is there any way to get rid of
the old Contacts folder in the Address book? I've tried the folder removal
suggestions in other posted messages but nothing has worked so far.
