How do I rebuild the SYSVOL directory structure?

Because of serveral problems during an upgrade to a
Windows 2000 domain, the domain controller security
policy never got built and I don't trust the few things
are are in the SYSVOL directory.

How do I rebuild the SYS folder and the policies from
scratch?

If this is not your only DC, then DCPromo/DCPromo cycle is probably
best.

If this is your only DC then restore from backup (two locations for Sysvol
and copy over after you are running.) See Chapter 9 -- Distributed Systems
Guide, Win2000 Resouce Kit

If you don't have another DC or a backup: start over with a new domain.

I have 2 Windows 2000 DC's and neither one of them have
the policies (info in the SYSVOL directory). Are you
saying that by just demoting and promoting one DC (does
it matter if it's the one with the FSMO roles?) that it
will automatically regenerate new default policies?

(Also, I don't have a backup of AD)

No, I thought you had one that was still trustworthy -- If they
already replicated then they SHOULD be the same unless it
was a pure corruption where the "changes" were seen as such.

You really should transfer FSMO roles before downing that DC.
