how do i read free/busy files on an intranet?

I have followed the help topic instructions for publishing your free/busy
info to a file server, and the file appears as expected. But, I can't read
the files. The help topic instructions are to browse to the file with
Internet Explorer, but it doesn't work, I just see a page of meaningless text.

I've also reviewed the Knowledgebase files, but they don't help either.

Has anyone figured out how to make this work?
 
You don't READ the free/busy except in Outlook Calendar when you schedule an
appointment or an event.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.
