I was instructed to post a sample so the other person
could better help me. Can anyone tell me how to submit a
post to this newsgroup to share?
Thank you,
Andrew

Hi
please don't attach a file to this newsgroup!
To post a sample post it in plain text

Andrew,
I was instructed to post a sample so the other person
could better help me. Can anyone tell me how to submit a
post to this newsgroup to share?

Attachments are *STRONGLY* discouraged in these newsgroups.
There are several reasons for this. First of all, many users
still pay for internet access on a per-minute basis (especially
in Asia), and downloading your attachment costs those users real
money. Second, we don't know you, and we don't whether your file
contains nefarious code. You may well be a nice guy posting an
innocuous file, but we don't know that. We don't know that your
file doesn't contain code that will wreak all sorts of havoc upon
our machines. Most people will never open the file. Finally, an
attachment is rarely necessary if you take the time to clearly
and fully explain your problem, provide some sample code or
formulas, and some actual and expected results. If you take the
time to write a good post, you don't need to attach a file.

--Also another consideration--
Many people look for their answers in previously answered questions
within the Google Groups archives. Google archives only the text of
postings to newsgroups.

so attachment will not be seen in the Google Groups (Usenet Newsgroups)
archives even if someone did want to see it. And one can search Google Groups
for something that is not there. So it places the burden on the person answering
to write out what the question actually is plus write out the answer the question.
The people here are all people like yourself looking for answers and helping
others (peer-to-peer newsgroups).

Also make sure that your subject description describes the problem
and that all parts of the question are within the body of the question and
don't rely on looking back at the subject for part of the question.

I'm another Andrew and I remember attaching a file to an earlier post
Sorry if I did the wrong thing. I'll remember this in future

To add to what has been said.
Many people do not have access to broadband so the attachment really slows
things down with dial up.
Quite often, if your question cannot be answered, you will be "invited" to
send direct.

This is one of the areas where there can be a problem in interpretation of
advice given. Given that you posted via ExcelForum, it's likely that you used
their option of attaching a file to your note, which whilst it would appear on
their site, would only appear as a link in the public newsgroups which is where
ExcelForum's posts get replicated to. In this case you will have done no wrong
as you have complied with Excel forum's posting policies, and they in turn will
have complied with the newsgroup posting policies by only posting a link to your
file. This is different to posting directly to the newsgroups and attaching
files, and unfortunately very likely to be confusing to many as well.
