How do I point Outlook to a pst file other than that used by default ?

Do you want to use the other PST as the default or simply open it?

Try setting it in the Control Panel > Mail applet. I'd give you the full
path but I've got OL2007 on this machine and its changed

on my w2k Control Panel > Mail applet deals only with internet accounts.
I guess that setting a pst file for Outlook should be done from Outlook.
Actually I did it sometime ago on my previous PC, do not remember the
details, but ceertainly I did it from Outlook. There was a place one can
navigate to a PST file

Control Panel-Mail-Data Files-Add. Navigate to your new pst file. Then click
on Close. Then click on Email accounts, click on Next, and under the heading
"Deliver New Email to the following Location" click on the drop-down box and
select the pst file you added in the Data File dialog box. You can then
return to the Data File box and remove the old pst file.

If you don't have a new pst file, then go directly to Control
Panel-Mail-Email Accounts, click Next and select New Outlook Data File at
the bottom.

On my Control Panel-Mail I have no Data Files
I habe just a tab "Mail" with the list of mail accounts. Also there are
buttons Add, Remove, Properties, Set as default (relevant to an account,
not to a file), Import (an internet account as an iaf file), Export and
Close.
OS is Win 2000, SP2
Outlook 2000 (9.0.0.2711),Internet Mail Only

Ah ha... I was using OL2003 instructions. I'll dig around for OL2000-IMO
instructions somewhere.

Ah. There you see the importance of telling us what version you
have......(which you didn't originally......)

Sorry - I did not realised that that way you point to a pst file varise from
version to version.
Now that you know the version, what is the cure?

Are you wanting to move the location of the default pst file, or use a
completely different file?

I want a completely different file and I want it in a completely different
place - otherwise I think I could just replace the default file with
another one.
I want to use a pst file from a Flash memory stick.
I work from several non-linked computers so I travel with this pst file on a
Flash memory stick.

With Outlook closed, move the existing default pst file to somewhere else.
On opening Outlook, it should complain that it can't find the pst file. Just
navigate to your flash stick......should work!

They're right there in GenAnswer (which runs flawlessly in Vista BTW):
- File menu > Open > Personal Folders file > migrate to the new PST file
location to open it
- Right-click on the root of the new set of folders in the folder pane (View
Folder List)
- Choose Properties
- Check the "Deliver POP mail" box
- Quit & restart Outlook
- Now you can Close the PST file that you were previously using (R-click on
that pst folder while in Folder View and select "Close <foldername>
Folders"). If you have any information in your former PST that you'd like to
transfer to your new default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the
other before you close the old one.

Thanks, it works.
