in PowerPoint 2007

Hi Clarie,

Do you want to the music play through several slides? Here are the
steps:
Suppose if you want to play a song from slide 5 to slide 8:
1. Display slide 5.
2. Click Insert -> Movies and Sounds -> Sound from File, locate the
folder that contains the sound file that you want, and then double-
click the sound file.
3. In the succeeding dialog box which says "how do you want the sound
to start in the slide show", one of the following:
Click "automatically" if you want to play the sound automatically when
you go to the slide.
Click "when Clicked" if you want to play the sound when you click the
sound icon.
4. Right click the sound icon, and then click Custom Animation.
5. In the Custom Animation task pane, click the arrow on the selected
item in the Custom Animation list, and then click Effect Options.
6. On the Effect tab, under Stop playing, select "After ** slides" and
then input 8.
In the Sound Options dialog box, select the Loop until stopped check
box to repeat the sound continuously.
After these, the song can be played through slide 5 to slide 8.

If you want to the music play through all the slides, here are the
steps:
1. Display slide 1.
2. Click Insert -> Movies and Sounds -> Sound from File, locate the
folder that contains the sound file that you want, and then double-
click the sound file.
3. When a message is displayed, click “Automatically”.
4. Right click the sound icon, and then click Custom Animation.
5. In the Custom Animation task pane, click the arrow on the selected
item in the Custom Animation list, and then click "Effect Options".
Tick "from beginning" under the "start playing", at the "stop playing"
option tick "after slides" and input the 999.
After these, the music you add can be played all over the slides.

Free and easy method to let music play through all the slides:
Use ppt to flash converter ( PowerPoint add-in http://snipurl.com/ppt-swf
) to add backgroud music with one click.

I have an hour-long speech mp3 recording and a 35-slide presentation. I want
to connect the two so the slides move forward when the speech reaches certain
points. I can see how to attach individual sound files to individual slides,
but I cannot break up the speech into 35 sections.

Also, in this chatroom, how do I get the "New" button to work? Nothing
happens when I click New Discussion or New Question. (I am using IE7)

Finally, where do I go to change my Discussion Board screen name?

Assuming you're coming in from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/com...?dg=microsoft.public.powerpoint&lang=en&cr=US

If nothing happens when you click "New," try turning off your popup
blocker.

To edit your screen name, click the "edit my profile" button next to Help in
the upper right of the screen. (If you hover over various buttons, you'll
get tool tips telling you what they are.)

As for the sound, you can add automatic transitions to your slides, but it's
pretty much hit-or-miss. You won't be able to make a fireworks animation
when the song hits "rockets red glare," for example.
