I tried to open the Paradox file from Access 2003, but says 'external table
not in expected format'.

I don't need to modify or use the data, I just need to read it somehow. Or
get it into Excel or ?

You should be able to import from a Paradox database into a local Access table... if you're missing it in your list of known File Types, it may have something to do with the options you chose when installing Access in the first place.

Hi! David Seeto !

I hope you can help me with this problem. I am trying to link a .dbf file into Access 2000/win 2000, but received this message 'external table not in expected format', may be it does not have an index file and as a result does not allow me to link to the file. I've linked to this particular file using Access 2000/win 98 without the index file and had no problem with it.

Is there some type of setting that I can change to make Access 2000 NOT need an index.

Thanks in Advance,

My experience with Paradox tables was that they had to be older than version
7. A co-worker of mine has an app that uses Paradox files for the data and
I can import/link them fine when he uses version 5 files. If he uses
version 7 files I get the same error you are reporting.
