Click Start, select Run and type in: cmd
press okay
Might also be listed under Accessories "Command Prompt".

START to RUN and type in CMD or COMMAND

Go to Start | Run and type CMD.

It's not true MS-DOS (which doesn't exist in Windows XP), but you
get a command prompt window, emulating DOS. For most purposes,
it's close enough to real DOS that you won't know the difference.

Never Command, just cmd, or go the program in start/programs/accessories. Using Command is possible, but it can only be closed by Task Manager, or by forcing it to "End Now" when one tries to close it manually.

Greetings --

Do you mean to say that the command window doesn't close when you
type "exit?"

Sorry, but that's not true. The correct way to close a COMMAND
window is by typing EXIT.
