How do I network 2 pcs?

First be sure the proper hardware and network cable is installed between the
PCs. Then work on the software part.

I'm running XP Home on this computer, and the other computer is running on
Windows 98 se. I've done the network wizard, made the floppy it asked for,
installed it on the older pc, but I am not seeing how to get files from one
or the other. Can someone walk (baby steps) me through this, or share an url
that will do this very easily? Thanks for any help.

Linda, these guys are retarted. If you have XP, it's a fairly simple process. Go to Start>My Computer>Control Panel> Network Coneections. You will see the Network Setup wizard. This will walk you through the process (I just set mine up in 15 minutes). You will need to do this on both machines. Don't forget to click on the network connection and disable XP's built-in firewall. Hope this helps.

Hello Linda
Now that I know you are running a router it isn't that hard, and do not
understand network setup I will see if this will help.
Open your network connections in Control Panel, right click on Local Area
Connection left click Properties, now you will need to install Client For MS
Networks, File and Print Sharing for MS Networks, Internet Protocol[TCP/IP],
I also have NWLink NetBIOS, NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios Comp. Trans. Pro.
installed and that allows me to run my firewalls on all puters and still
ping my network. Then when that is finished click apply-OK, now on the left
side of the network connection page you will see create a home network link
click on it and it will walk you through the steps, be sure to name your
workgroup the same on both puters and name each computer different, and when
you get to the place to create a floppy then do so(you will need a blank
floppy disk) and you can run it on the 98 machine.
Now on the 98 machine you will need to set the network connections on it to
but that page will look a little different, Control Panel, double click
Network, Add>Client>Add>Microsoft>Client For MS Network>OK, then click Add
again, Protocol>Add>Microsoft>IPX/SPX compatible protocol>OK, make sure that
TCP/IP is already in it or you will have to add it too, then click File and
Print sharing and check the box for sharing the printer then click OK.You
might have to install your 98SE cd for it to copy some necessary files, then
restart.
Now put the floppy in that you created and double click My Computer, double
click A drive, double click the network icon and it will run the setup.
I have probably forgot and left something out but maybe this will get you
close.
