I can't move my outlook data files to a new computer (using windows XP). I
don't know how to move my PST files to my HD, as suggested, and I can't even
find them. I don't know how to make sure that they aren't write protected
either. A little more granularity would help those of us who are a little
less experienced. I only have to do it once, so setting up a briefcase isn't
necessary...not that I could do that anyway. Thanks.

You can export the contacts to a file, move/copy/email that file to the other
computer and them import the file into Outlook on the second computer. I've
done this with Yahoo! contacts as well and it works perfectly. Use "Export"
or "Import" and just follow along...

Dear P.Rossetti,

a good description (including screenshots) for "How to Export items into
another PST" are on this site:
http://hrc.nevada.edu/Intranet/Import Export Outlook/Export Addresses.htm

a good site "How to move a complete PST file to a new computer":
http://www.slipstick.com/config/movepst.htm
I don't know how to make sure that they aren't write protected
either.

Serach on your HD for "*.pst", click 1 time on this pst file, right
mouseclick/properties, here you can select an atribute for "write
protected".

Example:
If you save the PST file on a CD, the PST file is automaticly "write
protected". Also if you copy the PST from a CD to any HD the PST is "write
protected". After you make a copy from a PST file from a CD to a HD you have
to deactivate the "write protection".
