The 97-2002 file that I created is 265KB while the "exported" file (that
doesn't load into Outlook 2000) is 296MB. I'd think if the 97-2002 file
contained everything in my personal folders that it would be much larger.
When I open the 97-2002 personal file in outlook, it only contains an
empty
inbox, deleted items, and search folders icons.
If I try to drag the "home" personal folder into the new personal folder,
I
get an error message that most of the items can't be moved. If I try to
right-click the "home" personal folder (with the intention of grabbing
everything to copy), copy isn't an option.
How can I confirm a pst I've created is in the 97-2002 format? The icon
looks the same when I do File>New>Outlook DataFile>97-2002

You must create the "Outlook 97-2002" PST file in the Outlook 2003
installation that contains your Outlook 2003 data file. How else would
you
have any information to copy into it?

I'm a little confused. The new pst file I created in the 97-2002
format
is
sitting in my desktop, seemingly without the contents of my personal
folders
(since I only created a new file, but there was no "save" or "copy"
function
in the wizard). If I export my personal folders into a PST, it doesn't
give
me the option to export it in the 97-2002 format.
This seems like 2 halves that I have to now put together. When you say
"drag & drop", "Copy&paste", etc, am I doing this all within Outlook?
I
notice that a new "personal folders" icon is added to the bottom of my
folder
list when I create a data file in 97-2002 format. Is there a place in
Outlook help that addresses this situation? Thanks so much for the
help
on
this...
:
Any of the usual methods should be fine:
Drag and Drop
Copy and Paste
Select All > Copy to Folder...

OK, I've created the new PST in 97-2002 format. How do I dump my
data
in
there?
:
No. The only program that can access this file is Outlook 2003. If
you
wanted a PST file that is compatible with earlier versions you
would
have
had to create a new PST file in "Outlook 97-2002" format while in
Outlook
2003.

You got it. i created the PST file in 2003, and am trying to
open
it
in
2000.
To move a pst file like this before (don't remember which version
to
which
version), I would change the name of the default pst (usually
mailbox.pst)
so
that when Outlook opened it would ask me where the pst file is.
I'd
then
direct Outlook to the file I wanted to use. Will this work once
I
figure
out
the compatibility issues?

Sounds like a different problem to me. You need to post details
if
you
need
help. You appear to have created an PST file in Outlook 2003
format
that
you
are trying to open in an earlier version.
List the exact steps you used and your versions.

Have you gotten this to work yet? I tried Russ' advice & it
hasn't
worked.
I get errors including "...pst is not compatible with this
version
of
the
Personal Foldres information service. Contact your
Administrator".
Thanks
