How do I minimize just 1 application and all of its open windows only-not all
applications. I know about [Windows logo key] + M but I need to be able to
only minimize Excel for example if I had Excel, Word, Outlook and Adobe all
open at the same time in Windows XP.

Any help is much appreciated,

Either

1. Click the task in the upper right corner of the application window,
or

2. Right-click the entry in the Task Bar and choose Minimize.

Or am I missing something in your question?

Hello Ken,

I believe I might have left out a detail, because I want to minimize all the
open windows for a particular application at the same time rather than having
to select and then minimize each open window for that particular application.
I tried what you recommended but it only minimized that window. Does this
help?

I'm not sure I understand the question either. Do you want Excel to
always open minimized? If so, an easy way to do this is to navigate to
excel.exe in Program Files, right-click on the icon and select Send To >
Desktop. A shortcut appears on your desktop. Right-click on the shortcut
and select Properties > Shortcut, and in the Run box choose Minimized.
Start Excel from this shortcut and it will launch as a button on the
Taskbar. You can pin this shortcut to your Start menu and/or add it to
your Quick Launch toolbar.

What do you mean by "*all* the open windows for an application"?
Normally an application has a single window open. Can you give an
example of a particular application with multiple windows open and
tell what each window is?

Try the "Group similar taskbar buttons" open in taskbar properties. Then you can just
right click the group and select Minimize group.
or you can select multiple taskbar buttons by Ctrl key+Click and select Minimize.

Good Luck, Ayush.

The [Ctrl] + Click option will work OK for me. I was looking for something
simular to a Mac OS X keyboard command ---(but since this is not a MAC and I
am a new Microsoft Windows user)--- I can live with a few extra clicks.

Thanks a lot for your help,

Sharon
