Perhaps I am not using the right term, but I would like to make a link to
jump from a word to a place further down the same page when you click on it.
I've tried everything that looked like it might work (bookmarks, find a line,
etc.) in help, but nothing worked. I really feel stupid, as I know it can't
be that hard! HELP please.

Thanks,
Barbara

It would be the "bookmark". How did you try to set it up?

I tried it a couple of ways. First way I know was wrong, so we won't go
there. After doing that, I then had the code word in the list, so, I
highlighted the link word, then selected the word from the list that
corresponded to where I wanted it to go, and clicked on "send to." I
uploaded it, refreshed the page and gave it a try. It didn't work.

Here's my test page: http://www.barakafarm.com/studio/tyrone/testindex.html

The links are: Biography ~ Exhibitions ~ Galleries ~ Collectors

If you scroll down the page it is obvious where they should jump to.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Barbara

Book marks (called "anchors")

such as <a href="page.htm#bookmark1">Click here to go to Bookmark 1</a>

......

Then at the spot you want to jump to insert this code:

<a "#bookmark1">Bookmark 1</a>
Or Insert > Bookmark > type the name > OK out of that dialogue box.

Then select the text for your link, right click > Hyperlink > type in the
page name (or select the page to link to) > go to "Bookmarks" (button) and
choose the bookmark you want. There must be bookmarks set (as per above
procedure) for any to be listed).

OK out of that dialogue. Preview the page and test the link, it should
jump to the bookmarked spot on the page.

A common bookmark is "#top" even though it isn't listed it is like a
"default" one, that takes you to the top of the page.

For example: Tyrone should be a bookmark for the Biography. Once you create
the Tyrone bookmark, you highlight the Biography text, go to creat
ehyperlink, and look for Tyrone on the list. You currently have Biography
also as a bookmark, not a link to the bookmarked item.

Before ending this discussion, I thought it might be helpful to point out why
the Frontpage help was more confusing than helpful to me....... not knowing
how to create this, and apparently not knowing the proper term (hyperlink).
I was going with the words, bookmark and anchor.

I selected "create a bookmark"...... and got this:

"In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design .
Select the text to which you want to assign a bookmark (bookmark: A location
or selection of text in a file that you name for reference purposes.
Bookmarks identify a location within your file that you can later refer or
link to.).
On the Insert menu, click Bookmark.
Under Bookmark name, type or select the name of the bookmark (spaces are
allowed)."

Since that was all the information there, I assumed that was all that needed
to be done. Of course that didn't work for me, so I found the link entitled,
"Go to an anchor (bookmark) on a web page" and got this:

"In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design .
On the Insert menu, click Bookmark.
In the Other bookmarks on this page box, click the bookmark (bookmark: A
location or selection of text in a file that you name for reference purposes.
Bookmarks identify a location within your file that you can later refer or
link to.) you want to find.
Click Go to."

At this point, nothing had referred to a hyperlink. I did not know that a
hyperlink could be used on the same page.

I tried everything I could find (go to line #), etc. to try and set this up.
It was only when I found a link to this forum, and Tom told me exactly how
to set it up and use the hyperlink, that I was able to accomplish this.

Perhaps this information can be of some help to our "Help" section on the
Frontpage software.

Again, Thank you to Tom and Andrew for their very helpful information.

Baraka: The help file in this case was *not* helpful at all, I agree. I
looked at it before I gave you the reply, and discovered it didn't say
anything about creating a hyperlink.

So, I'm glad you got it sorted out. Thanks for posting back!
