How do I make Search for Messages work?

I right click on Search messages with this group name.
A menu opens up and I enter Start Up as the subject,
and it finds none. Yes I see one there, in the last ten messages in
"All"....... What am I doing wrong?

The search function is not dependent on the server or group, it's dependent
on the newsreader. You don't appear to be using Outlook Express or the web
interface. I can only tell you, in Outlook Express, you can search on name
in the "From" column, the subject or words in the body of the message and
you can set a date criteria as well. Also, you can either search this group
or all the groups to which you've subscribed on this server and for which
you've downloaded headers to your system.

I don't know what you're doing wrong because I know nothing about your
newsreader. You appear to be using Mozilla as your browser. Does it come
with a newsreader? If that is what you are using, you might try a Mozilla
newsgroup or even a Netscape newsgroup as either one might be able to help.

Your advice is logical, Michael, but not in agreement with the facts
as witnessed by me. Yes, I have Mozilla .... and I believe there
must be something I have to set to see messages of which I am the
sender, which hasn't been shown to me. I say that because, with
everything ostensibly the same, in the newsgroup
netscape.mozilla.user.win32, it finds all such messages. Something in
this micro... newsgroup is preventing what works in the other
newsgroup from working here. Yes, I have asked over there and am waiting
for a response.

William,

As I've mentioned to you previously, I can't make Mozilla's Search
Messages work for *any* newsgroup on either my Linux or Windows XP
machines. My hunch is that we are up against the same problem. It's
probably something we are doing which is wrong. I don't know. I can't
figure it out.

I've chosen to ignore it by searching on a more complete forum: Google.

If you wish to learn how to make Mozilla Newsreader search functionality
work, best to done one or all of the following:

1-report this to Mozilla's bug-zilla
2-read the Mozilla's manuals closely
3-discussion on the Mozilla newsgroup forums

My question has been answered. I have to download messages,
and then click to "go offline", and then I can search. I
got this information from a helpful friend in the NS/Mozilla
groups.

Ah ... the old "we're doing it wrong". Thanks for reporting back on this.

Always good to close the loop. Somebody else may search
on the same topic, and it's nice if he/she finds the
solution, with less effort. Nobody can remember every little trick
or procedure. There are just too many of them.
