how do i make links open in a separate window but leaves my page

I want my links to open in a separate window, so if you browse around a lot
of pages at the linked site you dont have to keep hitting the back button to
get back to my site. And when you close out the linked site you're still at
my site.

If using FP navigation, then you can not set frame target values.

Based on the poster's statement that they wanted external link to open in new windows, so that the
site visitor could easy get back to the site, indicated that FP navigation might be in use, in which
case you can't set frame targets.

Hi,

Would anyone be able to tell me how I can choose the size of the New Window?
I would like my target frame/new window to be smaller than the normal page
size.

Thanks :)

You would have to use JavaScript to create the new window, then you can control the size, etc.

Download the free FP addin "Spawn" from www.jimcosoftware.com

When you you use Spawn, it has these parameters
function spawnJimcoPopup(url, name, options, h, w, x, y, scaleType)

h and w are the height and width of the window

x and y are the postion relative to the top left of the page

scaleType can be "percent" or "pixel"

If you use "percent", h and w are calculated as percentages, otherwise as
pixels.

The page can be centred by setting x to "center".

This gives you almost absolute control over how to size and position the
window

Hi, Tom. I don't mean to be obtuse. So, what you're saying is if I use FP
nav bars, I can't use _blank target? And why does the fact that he wants
external links open in a new window so they can get back to the site
indicate that FP nav bars are used? I don't use FP nav bars on my site, and
I do have a few external links here and there--which has nothing to do with
whether I use FP nav bars or not. I am no FP geek, but ... I don't
understand and I want to, so if you wouldn't mind explaining, I'd be
grateful. :)

Anne,

If you use any of the FP navigation components, you do not have the ability to set a frame target
value for individual hyperlinks from within FP. If you modify the hyperlinks outside of FP, if you
later open the page in FP, the change will be overwritten.

You can only set a base target value in the head section of each page that would then apply to all
hyperlinks on the page.

If you have never used FP navigation or you have and have never need to open a link in a new window
or frame, then you would never see/have this issue.
