Not sure if this is the correct group or not, however I hope this makes
sense, please redirect me if I am in the wrong group.

We currently have a server which is also used as a computer, and another 3
computers off of that server, our work is backed up daily on that server.

On my computer (not the server) I have a shortcut on the desktop for my work
file (stored on the server e.g. shortcut to T work). I need to make one on
another computer for a colleague (A) so they can access their own work
easily rather than going e.g. - start - network places - J computer - z
drive - A's folder. I have right clicked on the appropriate folder from A's
computer and tried to make a shortcut, but I don't know where the shortcut
goes to? It certainly does not show on A's desktop. Can anyone help me -
simple terms please. All computers are operating Windows XP.

Thank you.

Three methods:

1. Open Network Places and find the server and see its shares. If you
have maximized the window, make it smaller so you can see the Desktop
of the local computer. Find your colleague's folder. Right-click on it
and drag it to the Desktop. Release the right mouse button and choose
"Create Shortcut".

2. If Network Places doesn't work well, use "Search for computers on the
network" and locate the target folder on the server. Do as described in
#1 above.

3. Open My Computer and go to Tools>Map Drive. Navigate to the correct
folder on the server and map it as a drive on the local machine. This
will now show up as a drive in My Computer. Right-click that icon and
make a shortcut on the Desktop as described in #1 above.
