How do I make a menu appear with scroll over and hide without ?

I have a menu which takes up over an inch of the pages and would like to just
have the heading showing and then have a mouseover sub menu which appears
when the mouse is hovered over the menu heading.
Please help me as it is filling up too much space so far ???
