It seems that every time I turn my back, something
on my system has messed with my CD volume control! Its driving me nuts,
because I keep having to raise
the volume. I know it happens every time I change a
CD that I'm playing in Winamp, the CD volume goes nearly all the way down.
I don't know if its Winamp
or XP or something else that's doing it, but I know
it happens a lot. I want it on full volume all the time, so how can I lock
this volume so nothing can mess with it?

Hi there,

I'm just wondering, do you have a mouse with a scroll
wheel? If you're playing music in winamp, and winamp is
the program that is active (i.e. controls go to it), then
scrolling down the mouse wheel will turn down the volume.
Click away from the program before you start to do
anything else.

If you're talking about starting to play a CD and then
leaving your computer and the volume going down, then I
have no idea...

Hope this helps,

Nick

Yes, I have an Intellimouse Explorer with a scroll wheel. I noticed (on my
old system) that the wheel would lower the volume in Plextor's MVP audio
player and I always had to click on something else
to get it to go off that. Which also drove me nuts all the time! But on
this XP system, its even worse. As mentioned, I only have to change CD's
in Winamp and the system lowers the volume to
almost zero. I don't have to touch the mouse or mouse wheel!

With everything being able to control the volume, I find it hard to
imagine that you can't secure the volume level on an XP Pro OS, when its
got top level security features for everything else! If no one knows of a
way to do this, perhaps someone knows of a 3rd party program that will
lock the volume control, or some hack that I can do?

Use Voulume control in the sound option in control panel. This is the
master volume for the system - you will also have to change the Wave
volume as well- the channel that plays audio sound from Winamp...

:-)
