I'm not sure if I have a soundcard. How do I find it? I've tried
troubleshooting and nothing has worked. When I try to open the volume
control, it says that there are no active mixer devices available. My new
speakers don't need a driver and work off the sound card. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you!

99% of the sound cards are in PCI form, chk the back of pc & chk the slots.
To get info on it,R.click my computer, properties, device mgr, expand the sound
tree,R.click on the sound hardware, select properties...Also,cards or on board
sound may have mixer software capabilities, however xps own drivers wont
bring this option/software up,for that the software must be installed from
the
mfg web site or cd....

I followed your instruction until r click on sound hardware. I don't know
what it is. All my options are
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
NVidia nForce MCP Audio Processing unit

EVerything else is video or game ports

Any ideas?

I am pretty computer illiterate so laymans terms are helpful. Thank you!

That worked!!! I still don't know where my soundcard is but I don't care!
Thank you so much!!!

the NVidia nForce MCP Audio Processing unit is the chip (part of nForce
Chipset.. nForce2, nForce4 etc) that contains the hardware for your audio..
so in effect your Sound 'Card' in part of your motherboard.
