How do I know my computer support USB 2.0?

I bought a computer last year. How can I know if it support USB 2.0 or not?
I am going to buy a external hard drive with USB 2.0 connection. before I
order the hard drive, I need to check that. How can I check if the computer
has fire connection?

I'm assuming you're running Windows XP. Goto the Device Manager (right-click on My Computer, select Properties. Go to the Hardware tab, click on Device Manager). At the bottom of the list will be Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Click the "+" sign to expand. Look for USB 2.0 Root hub, or something like USB Enhanced controller

Or, you could check the documentation that came with your PC when you bought it. Controllers are only ~$40 or so if you need one and fit into any open PCI slot

Intel(r) 82801BA/BMA USB Universal Host Controller - 2442
USB Root Hub

Does it mean it do not support USB 2.0?

This is a USB 1.x controller. Your computer almost certainly does not have Firewire

While the external drive would work on this, it's 40 times slower than USB 2.0. You should get an internal PCI USB 2.0 controller for your computer (assuming you have an open PCI slot). They only cost around $40

Firewire is not USB 2. Firewire is IEEE1934. USB 2 is USB 2.

2.0. You should get an internal PCI USB 2.0 controller for your computer
(assuming you have an open PCI slot). They only cost around $40.
 
IEEE1394. Was just clarifying a question from the original post. The PC doesn't have either.
 
Understand, My desktop does not support USB 2.0. It does not have IEEE1394
either. But my lap top does have the IEEE1394.
