I finally "FINALY" got vista ultimate up and running this morning but I did
not have a chance to play with it. Is Aero something I have to turn on? Or
does it start by it's self?

It doesn't say it isn't.

In Ultimate it should turn on automatically. You can tell easily enough if
you go to:

[NOTE assuming Control Panel is in "Classic View", you may have to set it
so]

Control Panel > Personalize > Themes

and set the theme to "Windows Vista". The edges of windows should be
transclucent when not maximized, the WinKey + Tab should "flip" if there are
more than one open windows.

If not try:

Control Panel > Personalize >Window Color and Appearance

and enable "Transparency".

Furthermore, if that doesn't work you need to investigate other issues. Are
you using a WDDM capable graphics card? Are you using the WDDM version of
the driver? Check especally if you are using nVidia graphics.

To change the color scheme to Windows Aero
1. Open Appearance Settings by clicking the Start button , clicking Control
Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization,
and then clicking Window Color and Appearance. If the Appearance Settings
dialog box is not displayed, at the bottom of the page, click Open classic
appearance properties.
2. In the Color scheme list, click Windows Aero, and then click OK.

If Aero is not available, see the following article:

Aero Glass runs by default if your graphics card and driver support it. If
you are seeing transparency and you can use the switcher icon in the Quick
Launch bar to display a 3D stack of Windows and the desktop then you are in
business. Enjoy.

Thanks for the link.

You may have to go to Control Panel > System > Window Experience Index
and update your hardware score.

well the edges of my windows did look transparent so I must be ok (I am at
work so I cant verify) I was a little worried because I am running an older
graphics card a Nvidea GE Force FX 5200 but it looks like its being pigy
backed with the on board graphics chip.
