I bought an HP with a 60 day trial of Microsoft Office Professional. I bought
the 2003 Microsoft Office & Teacher Edition and inserted the CD; All I see is
all the files for the CD but the program does not launch. I don't get a setup
dialog box like it describes in the installation instructions; What's up
with that?

Is there a file called Autorun.exe? If so, run that...if not, run Start.exe.

You will not get autorun when the setup finds that Office 2003 is
already installed. Generally you need to double-click on SETUP.exe file
but this is prone to errors as you already have trial version installed.

You will need to uninstall the trial version first but I suggest read
this article to convert your installation:

It's me again,
I'd like to thank all who replied to my installation question. The responses
seem to be great tools to work with if you already have an understanding of
the terminology used in these discussion groups. What I need is an
installation guide to interpet the installation guide to install my office
program and the know how on how to setup and use my outlook email account. Is
there a beginners guide to this setup process in laymans terms?

There is no 'how to install office - dummies edition' - if
http://www.microsoft.com/office/pctrial/convert.mspx doesn't help, go to
control panel, add/remove programs and remove office trial. reboot and stick
your Student and teachers cd in - it should autorun, but if not, find
setup.exe and double click it.

once installed, just click on the outlook icon on the start menu and follow
the wizard- it will guide you. Additional information is at
http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/new_profile.htm and throughout the
outlook-tips site. Slipstick.com also has information.

No! It's pointless to setup OE when you want to use Outlook! It just adds to
the confusion and introduces problems.

Thanks for your help. I found out from my IP that the OE did not setup
because I had the 60 day trail installed and needed to convert to the full
product. So you were right about the trail version installed affecting the
installation. My IP assisted me with the setup of Microsoft Office and it now
works. I needed to go through them anyways because I'm overseas using a
German IP with different rules and conditions from the US. At least that's
what they told me; I'm still learning how all this works, so I'll be asking
more questions. Until then, thank you all for your assistance.
