I've created a number of PowerPoint slides. I want to insert them into a new
presentation. How do I do this?

Try Insert--> Slides--> From File. It should do what you want. It will allow
you to navigate to the file you want to insert from, then select the slides
to insert, define whether to insert them as they were formatted in the from
file or use the to file's formatting, and then insert them.

Only draw back: This is in PPT 2002 and later. If you are running an earlier
version, let us know so that someone can get you the steps for that.

I believe life is meant to be lived. But:
if we live without making a difference, it makes no difference that we lived

The answers I received to this post, were too simplistic and did not work.
I've read all the documentation on PowerPoint concerning this issue and I am
apparently missing something. I've created the slides(files) outside of a
PowerPoint presentation, but they were created within PowerPoint as slides.
I want to new create a NEW presentation and insert these slides into it.
Everytime I try insert from file, the second slide seem to write over the
first and etc. So I never see all the slides

Or we are. For example, I don't quite understand what you mean here:

Can you explain this in more detail?

This may sound like a silly question, but have you checked further on in the slide
show? When you insert slides into PresentationA from PresentationB, the slides
are inserted at the current insertion point (ie, they insert before whatever slide
in PresentationA you're currently viewing) and push all the existing slides
backwards in the pressie.

You start with:

A1
A2
A3

You insert two slides from B while viewing A2 and get

A1
B1
B2
A2
A3

Hi Steve, I struggled with the same problem. The answer is to click on
"insert" then "slides from files". This opens a "slide finder" window. Click
the "browse" button; select your folder; select your htm file and open. A
thumbnail of your slide appears in the "slide finder" window; left-click the
thumbnail to highlight it, then click the "insert" button.
Then click the "browse" button and repeat the process, each time selecting
new files.

That's a good description for how to add slides via Insert|Slides from
Files.

What is the problem you and the original poster were seeing? I still don't
quite get it. :-) Is the "problem" that you're trying to insert HTM files,
not PPT files?

Sorry to picjk up on this so late after the initial request, but I have the
same issue (I think!).

I am trying to use the Slide Insrt Function to insert a number of indivdual
PPT slides into a presentation. When you click on the brwose button and
select a number of the slides you want the browse facility will only pick up
on one slide at a time. So this means that to create a PPT show out of a
number of different individual PPT slides you have to repeat the insert
function every time for each slide. This is a pain in the a**! Is there any
way of selecting and inserting a number of slides at the same time from the
same folder to create a show made up of a number of slides?

Many thanks

You could open the receiving Presentation and the sending presentation in
the Slide Sorter view line them up beside each other by Clicking on Window,
Arrange All. Ctrl+click the slides you want to copy then Right click the
selection and select copy or move (your choice) when you release the mouse
button in the receiving presentation

It sounds as though your "slide library" is a folder full of single-slide
presentations.

If you were to combine these into multi-slide presentations instead, you'd be
able to choose a presentation, then pick the slides from it that you want.

That may not fit your workflow for other reasons, I realize.

So, we go....

File > Insert Slides from Files

This opens up the Slide Finder screen.Click "Browse" to choose the PPT
which holds the slides you want to 'import'.

This presents you with the slides in a filmreel view. Optionally, below
the button marked "Display" are two buttons that let you define how you
want to see the slides (like a film reel or optionally in a list with a
thumbnail view for the selected slide).

Choose the film reel option to see the slides you want.

Then you can -

a) Double click the slides you want one at a time and they will be
placed directly into your slide pack

OR

b) Click each one so they are surrounded by a blue border (shows its
selected), scroll left or right to see more slides and select those
too.

c) Click on "Insert" and the selected slides will be placed into your
new PPT.

Note that if you want them to look identical to the originals, be sure
to select the "Keep source formatting" tick box otherwise the imported
slides will adopt the layout of the new PPT masters.

Hope this is helpful!

-- My question is how to get to the Insert File and then browse. In my 2007
PPT, I don't have that option. It just shows Insert new slide... In Office
2003 PPT, I was a heavy user of "insert slides from file" ...then hitting
"browse" choosing the slide deck I wanted, highlighting the slides I wanted,
then choose Insert and click or not click, "Save format," and Viola! I had
all the slides I wanted. Without being able to have the Insert slides from
File option, I am lost and, as other posters have noted, Cutting and pasting
is not acceptable.

Would like any ideas
Jim

It's on the Home tab. Click the bottom half of the New Slide button and then
choose "reuse slides." (I know, I know....)

Ok, so I figured it out with the instructions from Echo..thanks, Echo..one
step, however that I had to take before using it was to right click on the
"Home" button and find the "Re use" option in the list of additional
icons/buttons that can be added to the menu. Out of the box, Vista..or at
least my version, did not display that option. Once I added that to my menu,
then, it worked...click on "Re use" at the bottom of the "Home" button, it
creates a pop up on the right hand side that allows me to browse a previous
ppt, which then displays that presentation in thumbnails of the slides..I
place my cursor on the original slide show where I want to insert those
slides I want to insert from a previous slide deck, click the slide I want
and Viola! they get inserted into the new deck...just like in PPT 2003!
Thanks again, Echo...saved me hours...!

If you click the bottom of the New Slide button (on the Home tab), it opens
a gallery. Reuse Slides is at the bottom of that gallery.

Sorry I apparently didn't give good instructions for where to find it!
