I am trying to send a valentines email message to my girlfriend. I have a
saved jpeg file that I would like to use as the faded background, and then I
would like to be able to type a message over the top. When I go to insert
file, it attaches it as an attachment. Your advice is really appreciated.

I can only assume that you are using Outlook, with that said, you can do it
by using Stationery Picker in Outlook or you can create a message in Word
and send it from there.

1. In Outlook, Click on Tools then Options.
2. Click on the Mail Format tab.
3. Click on Stationery Picker
4. Click on New
5. Under "Enter a name for your new stationery" enter a name.
6. Under "Choose how to create your stationery" click on the radio button
next to "Start with a blank stationery" then click on Next.
7. Change the font type if you would like.
8. Under the Background section, click on the radio button next to
"Picture."
9. Click on Browse and go to the folder where your picture is and click on
it.
10. Click OK to get out of that dialog box.
11. Click on Ok again. This brings you back to the Options dialog box. By
default, after creating a new stationery it will be used. Click on the down
arrow next to "Use this stationery by default" if you don't want to use this
stationery all of the time choose <None>.
12. Click OK to get out of the Options box and you should be good to go.

For Word:

1. On the Format menu, point to Background, and then click Printed
Watermark.
2. In the Printed Watermark dialog box, use one of the following
methods: . To insert a picture watermark, follow these steps: a. Click
Picture watermark.
b. Click Select Picture.
c. Click the picture that you want to use as a watermark,
and then click Insert.
d. Click to select the Washout check box if it is not
already selected, and then click OK.

Note The Washout feature adjusts the brightness and
contrast on the image to make the image less visible behind the text.

. To insert a text watermark, follow these steps: a. Click Text
watermark.
b. In the Text box, type the text that you want to use as
a watermark.

Note You can also select the text that you want to use as
a watermark by clicking the text in the Text list.
c. Select the other options that you want to use with the
text watermark, such as Font, Size, and Color, and then click OK.

Hope this helps!
