It sounds like you are using an IMAP account - you cannot reuse a .pst file
in IMAP accounts.

After furious head scratching, pcombs asked:
| I have followed the instructions in the link you've posted. It
| doesn't work for me. When re-installing Outlook I was forced to
| create a new account which Outlook gave the name of my mailserver
| (mail.wright.edu). Even though I've selected my old .pst file for
| delivery of new emails, I find that new emails still go to the Inbox
| under the new account. When I try deleting emails from that Inbox, a
| line is drawn through the sender's name on the email but it isn't
| moved to the "Deleted Items" folder either.
|
| I'm not a newbie at this, but I'm stumped. What could I be doing
| wrong?
