How do I import email addresses for bulk business mailings

I am trying to set up a system to email my customers from the email addresses
I have collected. I tried importing from an excel worksheet but I keep
receiving an error. IS this the best way to accomplish this task?
 
What error? Why import when you can use the Excel data directly to perform a Word mail merge?
