How Do I Get Windows To stop opening my Common Folder on
Startup?

I will say for the 10th time, "I am not a tekkie".

I am a writer who has learned quite a bit about computers
from using them for 25 + years professionally.

Some 6 months ago, I installed SOMETHING that -- when I
rebooted as required by the install-- opened my

c:\Windows\Common

folder.

This has happened half-a-dozen times in the past few months,
and until recently, I was able to find a blank line in my
Startup routine.

I have been looking for several days now, since I installed
Power Defragmenter,

and the computer STILL opens

Windows\Common

folder when I boot.

Any hints?

There is no standard %SystemDrive%\Windows\Common ---folder
path. Did you mean to say C:\Program Files\Common Files ? That
is the equivalent to "All Users" for applications. If it doesn't appear in
MSConfig, then it's likely a Service call.

If you are Registry capable, check at
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services
From that point do a Registry Find, using the string "\Common"

Use AutoRuns from SysInternals

But I am illiterate where the registry is concerned.

My few attempts to go in there and patch things in the past
resulted in formats.
