I am trying to print envelopes for christmas cards and cannot get "spouse"
field to show up on print. please help. I have selected the "name and name
lastname" display choice in final step of envelope wizard.

No one can help without knowing your versions and how you are constructing
your merge document. You simply need to gain some experience in how to
construct your Merge Document correctly. You'll also need to understand some
of the differences in field names between Word and Outlook. There is ample
assistance in Help files, in the KB and on websites.

I apologize. I am using Office 2003, therefore am using the 2003 versions of
all programs. I have spent a large amoutn of time using each of these
programs and have spent 3 days...in excess of 6 hrs searching this site, the
help files and non-Microsoft sites for the answer. All I asked for was a
little hep. Please help or at the very least, do not be rude and
condescending. Thanks, Dr Shaun C Merchant

Sorry if you thought I was being rude or condescending. I wasn't. I was
simply pointing out that problems with mail merges are nearly impossible
to solve within the context of a Usenet post because there are far too
many variables involved and you posted none of what we would need even
to start. In the end you will still have to experiment with different
merge fields on your own to get the result you want. I would suggest you
try parsing name elements individually rather than trying to use derived
fields like "name" or "full name."

It would be very difficult for us to post more information than you can
get at the Office Help site:

To describe the process I have been using. I open new document in word 2003.
I select envelope wizard. After setting up envleope options I select
recipients. I select Outlook contacts as folder and select individual
addresses within that I wish to send to. The next step is to arrange
envelope. In this step, I click on the address block and check "insert
repipient's name in this format" and select the "Josh and Cynthia Randall"
format. I then deselect company name and hit OK.
This places "«AddressBlock»" on my envelope. I have right clicked to toggle
fields and attempted to change the fields within but have had no luck. When
I go to preview envelopes, I can never get the spouse name to appear.

That should be pretty explanatory for the specific steps I have taken. As I
said, I have searched and searched. I have tried to start in Outlook and go
on to Word with mail merge but for envelopes I always ultimately end up in
the steps described above, where spouse does not appear. When I toggle the
fields it shows: <<_NICK0_>><< and _FIRST1_>><< _LAST0_>>
I have searched for variables to insert here to get the first name of
individual, then and, then the spouse to appear, but nothing seems to work.
Thanks for all your help.

Because I did not understand how to complete the process starting from
Outlook. As I said, I have been starting in word with the envelope wizard
and have gotten no errors. When I did mail merge, it brings up multiple
options and boxes. As I am no expert (why I looked here) I did not know how
to proceed from that viewpoint. I also would like to point out that you have
again entered the rude and condescending category. If I have a corrupt

This places "«AddressBlock»" on my envelope. I have right clicked to

fields and attempted to change the fields within but have had no luck.
When
I go to preview envelopes, I can never get the spouse name to appear.

That should be pretty explanatory for the specific steps I have taken.
As I
said, I have searched and searched. I have tried to start in Outlook
and go
on to Word with mail merge but for envelopes I always ultimately end
up in
the steps described above, where spouse does not appear. When I
toggle the
fields it shows: <<_NICK0_>><< and _FIRST1_>><< _LAST0_>>
I have searched for variables to insert here to get the first name of
individual, then and, then the spouse to appear, but nothing seems to
work.
Thanks for all your help.

Sorry if you thought I was being rude or condescending. I wasn't. I
was
simply pointing out that problems with mail merges are nearly
impossible
to solve within the context of a Usenet post because there are far
too
many variables involved and you posted none of what we would need
even
to start. In the end you will still have to experiment with different
merge fields on your own to get the result you want. I would suggest
you
try parsing name elements individually rather than trying to use
derived
fields like "name" or "full name."

Oh, give me a break. How can you expect anyone to provide help when you
first post incomplete information then follow up with misleading
information? In an earlier post you said you had already tried to start the
merge from Outlook and ended up with the same dialog and same result as when
you started it from Word. Now you tell us that in fact you never could do
the merge from Outlook because you have a corrupt installation. We were
somehow suppose to guess that? Did you not think that information might be
relevant?

All you need to do to obtain help is:
1. State clearly what you are trying to do in your specific version of
Outlook.
2. State clearly the precise steps you used and what the results were,
including any error messages.
You did neither of these things. We don't expect you to make the diagnosis.
But when you don't even provide the symptoms, how are we supposed to?

No one can help without knowing your versions and how you are
constructing
your merge document. You simply need to gain some experience in
how
to
construct your Merge Document correctly. You'll also need to
understand some
of the differences in field names between Word and Outlook.
There
is ample
assistance in Help files, in the KB and on websites.

I am trying to print envelopes for christmas cards and cannot
get
"spouse"
field to show up on print. please help. I have selected the
"name and
name
lastname" display choice in final step of envelope wizard.

You're a real charmer. Thank you for wasting so much of my time. Common
Usenet decency requires that you at least post the solution you found so
that others won't have to waste theirs. Should you ever post again, follow
the guidelines I gave you. Someone else will be able to help you. Not I. I
will studiously avoid any posts you make.

I got it to work! No thanks to you and your crappy advice.

Oh, give me a break. How can you expect anyone to provide help when you
first post incomplete information then follow up with misleading
information? In an earlier post you said you had already tried to start
the
merge from Outlook and ended up with the same dialog and same result as
when
you started it from Word. Now you tell us that in fact you never could do
the merge from Outlook because you have a corrupt installation. We were
somehow suppose to guess that? Did you not think that information might
be
relevant?

All you need to do to obtain help is:
1. State clearly what you are trying to do in your specific version of
Outlook.
2. State clearly the precise steps you used and what the results were,
including any error messages.
You did neither of these things. We don't expect you to make the
diagnosis.
But when you don't even provide the symptoms, how are we supposed to?

I suppose I should mention that I am not a perfect human being who
understands all and knows all. If I were I would not be asking for
help.
I
would ask you though, why do you offer support in here? Is it just so
you
can lord your knowledge over others and attempt to feel better about
yourself?

:

You have proven my initial point. Now you see why embarking on mail
merge
questions is an exercise in futility. I am amazed at the details you
chose
not to include and yet still expected to get an answer here. Why would
you
not say up front that you had a corrupt installation that is not
functioning
and address that issue first?

cannot start with outlook. I get a schdmapi.dll not found error.

:

That's an Outlook field, so you must start the merge from Outlook
so
it
will be available to you. I just did it and it works fine. Explain
the
trouble you are having. "Spouse" is available in the Database
Fields.

Where have you stored the Spouse's name?

To describe the process I have been using. I open new document
in
word 2003.
I select envelope wizard. After setting up envleope options I
select
recipients. I select Outlook contacts as folder and select
individual
addresses within that I wish to send to. The next step is to
arrange
envelope. In this step, I click on the address block and check
"insert
repipient's name in this format" and select the "Josh and
Cynthia
Randall"
format. I then deselect company name and hit OK.
This places "«AddressBlock»" on my envelope. I have right
clicked
to
toggle
fields and attempted to change the fields within but have had no
luck.
When
I go to preview envelopes, I can never get the spouse name to
appear.

That should be pretty explanatory for the specific steps I have
taken.
As I
said, I have searched and searched. I have tried to start in
Outlook
and go
on to Word with mail merge but for envelopes I always ultimately
end
up in
the steps described above, where spouse does not appear. When I
toggle the
fields it shows: <<_NICK0_>><< and _FIRST1_>><< _LAST0_>>
I have searched for variables to insert here to get the first
name
of
individual, then and, then the spouse to appear, but nothing
seems
to
work.
Thanks for all your help.

Sorry if you thought I was being rude or condescending. I
wasn't.
I
was
simply pointing out that problems with mail merges are nearly
impossible
to solve within the context of a Usenet post because there are
far
too
many variables involved and you posted none of what we would
need
even
to start. In the end you will still have to experiment with
different
merge fields on your own to get the result you want. I would
suggest
you
try parsing name elements individually rather than trying to
use
derived
fields like "name" or "full name."

It would be very difficult for us to post more information than
you
can
get at the Office Help site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011269731033.aspx#preview
and
