My screen was freezing up when I was using this logitech usb laser mouse, so
I stopped using it and went back to the old faithful Microsoft optical
mouse. Now I get this warning in my Event Viewer constantly. The logitech
mouse software was not installed and the mouse is not showing up in Device
Properties, obviously because it was a usb that is no longer plugged in. So
how do I stop this problem below:

Event ID 2; Source Logitech

information is part of the event: .

Remove the associated Logitech software using add/remove.

Uninstall the logitech mouse. It doesn't show up in Device Manager because
it is not plugged in.

See this...

Riachard, Wes, that's just it. I never installed the software so there is
nothing to uninstall. I plugged it in and XP installed it automatically.
There is no hardware to uninstall that I can see either.

I am going to go search the registry for logitech and see what shows in
there.

Device Manager probably still thinks that the mouse is installed or you
wouldn't get any errors referring to it.

You didn't install any software, XP did, i.e. drivers.

Read the article.

And set Device Manager to show the Logitech mouse so that it can be
uninstalled

Alright, I used that page's instructions:
To work around this behavior and display devices when you click Show hidden
devices: 1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and
then click Command Prompt.
2. At a command prompt, type the following command , and then press ENTER:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
3. Type the following command a command prompt, and then press ENTER:
start devmgmt.msc

I hope the instructions in number 2 were okay, because I see no way of
putting it back.

When I went into device manager and selecte to show hidden devices that was
a usb device with a yellow question mark beside it. I unistalled it, not
really knowing what it was. I hope that does not mess things up. There was
also 4 mice showing under the Mouse setion of device manager. Only one of
them showed as being connected in properties though, so I uninstalled the
other 3 and rebooted. Let's see if all this fixes the problem.
