When the Start button is pressed there is a
section called "Documents" and this lists all past
documents and pictures I accessed.

Can this be turned of, permanently?

Please help, Frank

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=292504 tells you how to disable the Recent
Documents group from the Start menu, or how to set a max count of docs that
will be listed. If you don't want to edit the registry directly, you can
edit it using X-Setup which a utility that permits lots of tweaking of
Windows (but be careful of what you change since some could render your
Windows inoperative).

Yes, through the Start menu properties.

Right click the start button, go to "Advanced" tab and clear the check-box
"List My most recently opened documents".

I'm having trouble with this.

I have clicked the Start button and gone to
'Properties' but there is no "Advanced" button to
be seen.

Thanks. But when I do this the "Advanced" button
throws up an Explorer-type screen called
"C:\Documents an Settings\Frank\Start
Menu\Programs\Accessories," in which there are no
check boxes at all.

The only check boxes along the way are in the
"Customize Classic Start Menu"
and this has two similar boxes asking "Expand my
Pictures" and "Expand my Documents." which don't
do the job.

PS I have WindowsXP with Media Centre 2005.

PPS: My old computer (With WindowsXP only) has
the start-button properties you mention and this
was the way I fixed the problem in the old days.

Perhaps the newer WindowsXP with Media centre
doesn't do this.

I tried using the TweakUI and this worked, but
sadly it cancelled all the drop-down boxes in
Word2003 & Access2003.

So I don't know what to do now,

Regards Frank

Don't feel alone.
I have tried to follow the thread about the supposed "Advanced tab"
but, like you, I don't have one and the Advanced button throws up the
same as you describe. (WinXP SP2)
I have no idea what the posters who mention Advanced tab have (or
perhaps, what they have added?)

I have WinXP SP2 Home.
In "Properties" I have the choice of "Start Menu" or "Classic Start
Menu".In the "Start Menu" "Customize" there is an "Advanced Tab" which
is not present in the "Classic Start Menu"

Ahh.... it is a long time since I tried other than Classic and had
blotted the experience from my memory banks.
Yes, I tried it for 30 seconds and see what you mean.
