How do I get of previous internet searches and how do I
get rid of the automatic suggestions. For example, when I
type A, all the previous A stuff comes up. How do I
prevent the computer from that help which is not wanted.
Thanks

Hi Jack :-)
How do I get of previous internet searches and how do I
get rid of the automatic suggestions. For example, when I
type A, all the previous A stuff comes up. How do I
prevent the computer from that help which is not wanted.

Try the following information and see if it helps.

How to clear Address Bar History

See here
http://www.xmission.com/~comphope/issues/ch000511.htm

See this section: Instructions for Internet Explorer users
http://www.help2go.com/article58.html

Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm
Deletes the History folder (and the index.dat file). When you reboot, a new
folder is created

Delete History folder manually:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

In order to prevent the Autocomplete from working, close all open browser
windows or it will not take effect. Go to Tools | Internet Options | Click
the Content tab. Click the button that says Autocomplete. Uncheck Web
Addresses and all other items you don't want used with Autocomplete.
CAUTION: Be careful clearing passwords, be sure you have them backedup

-----Clear History for Windows XP

Courtesy of LuckyStrike:

Do a Deltree command in DOS:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#deltree

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Follow the instructions to the letter. You will be left with new Index.dat
file of 32 KB, and a newly created History folder. The same will apply if
you go the distance and do a Deltree on TIF and Cookie folders. It is
unnecessary to do that if they are in good working order.

Hope this helps.

That was what I would have thought, but even with the web adress
checkbox unchecked, URLs are still saved in the browser address
prompt. I'm running XP bnow, and this didn't happen in ME or '98.

Hi Freddy :-)

It may be that your History is damaged or corrupted. Try the following for
information and see if it helps.

IE History Damaged - Won't work

Or... Your History folder may be damaged.
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder and a new one will be created when you restart.

Or the History folder can be deleted manually:
See: How To Delete the Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

You might need to delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be
created on restart.
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder in Windows 9x,2K, XP.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. I tried this but no joy I'm afraid.

Not sure I want to install a plug-in so that the browser will do what
it's programmed to do. Maybe I should un install explorer altogether
and go with opera or Mozilla
Hope this helps.

I agree ... here's one back :)

Thanks kindly for your advice. I guess I'll have to have a bit more of
a poke around.

Hi Freddy :-)

##############################################################
CAUTION!!! If you have XP, you can not uninstall IE, as, unlike all other
versions or Windows, IE is core to the XP program. To attempt to remove it
may cause serious harm to your system.
#############################################################

If you wish to use another browser, you may do so and set it us as your
default browser. But, you will need IE to do the Critical and other
updates, and to view sites that are only viewable in IE.

You might also try these two programs to be sure there's no scumware on your
system that can cause these problems. If so, follow the removal
instructions, and then try the steps outlined before and see if they will
work.

SpyBot Search & Destroy: Free

AdAware: Free

IMPORTMANT!!!

Before you try to remove spyware using any of the programs below, download a
copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:

http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html (if your OS is Win2k or
XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill your internet
connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will enable you to
regain your connection

Hope this helps.
