oI have read the posts here and did the download program to remove Messenger.
However after reboot and connecting to MSN, Messenger re-installed it self! I
have no use for Messenger, I do not want it, I wish it would go away, etc!!!
When I deleted it MSN told me it could not find my log-on info, it then
connected me to MSN but would not allow e-mail etc. I rebotted again and got
logged on okay but there was messenger again. I have it set up so I never
appear on-line but it signs itself in, I sign out and 5 min later it signs
itself back in again. Does anyone know how to bury this program forever,
without screwing up other functions? I do not use outlook eithere.

Dave

Greetings,

If you're using MSN (I assume you mean MSN Explorer or MSN Premium), it will automatically
reinstall Messenger when you run it. This is by design.

try to uninstall msn messenger
http://www.cezeo.com/tips-and-tricks/windows-messenger/

I tried that before I made the post. It does remove it but when I start up
MSM preimum again it reinstalls itself. Is there no way to get around this M$
default? Why do we have to put up with these things without being given a
cholice?

if there is no option in MSN Premium to disable MSN, it will be hard to
disable it.
Try to find the msn installation package ( where MSN premium takes it )
and delete it.

You could also use the Windows Explorer and go into c, program file,
messenger and then rename msmsgs.exe to msmsgs.exe.old or anything else to
care to call it.

Windows can't find it and does not start it up and it doesn't try to
re-install either.

Think your wrong there, if you delete it, it can't find it and it will go
get it again. So if you rename it, it won't find it and it will get it again.

If you can't get rid of it. Get a firewall with program level controls and
don't allow it access to the net, it will never sign in then

Hi,

Actually, that'll stop Windows Messenger from loading, assuming we're talking about MSN
Explorer 9.x, it will be reinstalling MSN Messenger, not Windows Messenger so that won't have
any effect either.

Windows Messenger 4.5 or later versions on a Windows XP Home
Edition-based computer or on a Windows XP Professional-based computer

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system.
Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from
using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.

Note This method prevents programs that use the Messenger APIs from
using Windows Messenger. Outlook 2002, Outlook Express 6, and the
Remote Assistance feature in Windows XP are examples of programs that
use these APIs and that depend on Windows Messenger.

1. Start Registry Editor. To do this, click Start, click Run, type
regedit.exe, and then click OK.

If the following registry subkey already exists, go to step 6:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client

2. Click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key. Type Messenger
for the name of
the new registry key, and then press ENTER.

4. Click the following registry subkey: key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger

5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key. Type Client for
the name of the new registry key, and then press ENTER.

6. Click the following registry subkey: key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client

7. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. Type
PreventRun for the name of the new DWORD value and then press ENTER.

8. Right-click the PreventRun value that you created in step 7, and
then click Modify. In theValue data box, type 1, and then click OK.

9. Quit Registry Editor.

Hi,

Again, those are for Windows Messenger. We're talking about MSN Premium and MSN Messenger
here -- these policies have no affect on that.
