How do I get past a password dialogue box?

I've read the posts here but can't find the solution I need.
I'm asked for a password before I get to the welcome screen. The bios says
its password is disabled so I think it must be a windows password. I can get
into safe mode, as suggested by some of the advice to other password
problems, but I get asked for the password there as well before I can do
anything else. So I can't get a command line without the password! I've tried
entering nothing and all the suggestions made by my son - whose computer it
is and so far all to no avail.
I'd be very grateful for any advice.
Thanks

I think some computers BIOS have two password options. One to alter/change
the BIOS itself and the other for actual login. Make sure you check both. I
don't know why this problem would have just popped up!

Thanks - I don't know if I'm brave enough to start messing about with the
registry!
But its maybe the only way.
Thanks for taking the time to help
