How do I get Outlook Contacts under my mailbox list?

Having wasted now excessive amounts of time trying to figure it out using the
(typically useless) help, I'm forced to create a login here and ask, is there
a way of having my Contacts list located under my Mailbox, in with the
Deleted Items, Inbox etc, instead of down in its own folder where it for me
is a pain?

I have never wanted it seperately, and now having to use Outlook 2003 I am
finding it being located seperarely out of the system is more than just
annoying.

Is it possible to get it back into the main view, or is this an
"enhancement" that Microsoft have forced on users whether they like it or not?
 
Interesting! I was just going to post the same question!

I recently updated a user running Office 2003 Small Business Edition to
Office 2003 Professional (she needed access to Access).

She said the Contacts folder used to appear in her Mail view but it is no
longer there.

She can go to Go -> Folder List and get it to appear but if she goes to any
other view it's gone again when she goes back to the Mail view.

If your mailbox is an IMAP account, no. IMAP folders can hold only messages.

Thank you for the quick reply.

This particular user claimed the Contacts list was present in her default
mail view prior to my updated her to Office 2003 Pro.

Is there a way to select a view and have it as the default that will display
the Contacts list? I know if I go to Go -> Folder list it will display
Contacts along with every other folder but how can I keep that as the default
view?

Apparently, Brian gave you the answer -- that she needs to use the appropriate navigation pane. Go | Folder List is the hard way. There's a Folder List icon at the bottom of the navigation pane.

I find that Outlook is quite good at remembering that I was looking at the Folder List when I closed it. It displays the Folder List the next time I start it. I suggest you show her how that works. In time, she may find that using the specific navigation modules is more useful to her -- at which point, Outlook will remember to show her the Mail pane, not Folder List.

If you think that will never happen, you can change the settings for the nav pane to show only the Folder List.

She is mistaken. The Mail view shows (and has always shown) only folders
that contain mail items.
