Hello,

Yesterday I used XP's File and Settings Transfer (FST) wizard to creat a
file called
USMT2.UNC on my local harddisk , and then, I formated C: and installed Vista
instead.
Now I want to transfer the files and settings into Vista but Vista's Easy
Transfer won't recognize it.
Unfortunately I don't now how to use Vista's Easy Transfer on the original
computer
(and I can't get the way from the help files).
How do I get my old files and settings from this file into Vista?

Thanks in advance.

XP's FST was designed to transfer settings etc between XP machines. Vista's
Easy Transfer was designed to gather settings info from an XP installation.
What you have done is converted your old XP settings into a format that only
XP recognizes.

What you can do is reinstall XP then use FST to reinstall all the settings
etc. Then run VISTA easy transfer and you can then reinstall VISTA and have
the settings.

Thanks!
And could i get my outlook data back to Vista without REINSTALL WinXP ?
Is there any tool helpful?

OMG!
That means i must reinstall a xp for my data>?
Is there any tools helpful ? I must get my Outlook Data~

Won't happen, sorry. Vista cannot read these files. You should have used
the Vista Easy Transfer program to gather files and settings.

XP's FST is designed for use within XP. AFAIK, there is not tool available..

Hmm..
Thank you!
Maybe I can copy this folder to another pc and get my data back...

I just want to get my Outlook Data back.

It might be easier to use Virtual PC to install XP and then extract the
needed data (easier then reinstalling XP, then installing Vista)

However, this would only be a suggestion I'd recommend if you have some
basic familiarity with Virtual PC, otherwise you may find you spend more
time screwing around with Virtual PC then the whole process would
otherwise take.
