My system crashed with a corrupt config\system file so I
restored the registry. Now I get an error from lsass.exe -
"When trying to update a password, the return status
indicates that the value provided as the current password
is not correct".

I tried going into the recovery console from boot disks
but it keeps asking me for an administrator password - it
didn't do this before the restore.

I don't know the password but I need to get to the command
prompt to get some files before I do the recovery. How do
I get my administrator password?

thanks,

If this is a company computer see your Administrator, if it is yours and you
are not the one to setup it up originally, try entering nothing and click
enter (blank), or see the person who originally set it up.

It's my personal computer that came with Windows XP
loaded, so Sony set the %$%#$% thing up. I may have to
call Sony and/or Microsoft, hope not.....

Greetings --

Whenever WinXP is installed on a computer, two user accounts are
automatically created: Administrator and Guest. By default, the Guest
account is disabled, and isn't pertinent now, in any case. During the
installation, WinXP Pro will ask the installer to designate the
Administrator's password, but WinXP Home will not do so. By default,
the Administrator's password is blank.

Once any additional user accounts have been created, the
Administrator account will no longer be displayed on the Welcome
Screen. This is a default security feature that may, or may not, be
needed in your specific situation. By design, the only way to log
into the Administrator account of WinXP Home is to reboot into Safe
Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the Welcome
Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.
