Hello all,

I am trying to configure IE so that when I click on a
link to a file (i.e., an Excel document, "example.xls"),
the file will open is Excel instead of in Internet
Explorer. The older version of IE/Windows did this and it
was a lot handier because you can get to all the toolbars
and tools in Excel and not IE. I know a work-around is to
right-click on the file, save it, and then open it
directly from Excel, but I want to see if there's a way
to do it without saving the file to disk.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Eric

I'd think that you should be able to right-click a .xls file in
windows explorer (not ie), select "open with" and configure it to open
in Excel every time, no matter whether the link is clicked inside or
outside the browser.

You might want to go into Control Panel \ Folder Options \ file types
to identify the current association. (Type x to move down the list
quickly to .xls.)
