I'm using PowerPoint 2003 -- a NEW user. Is gray the default, or am I doing
something wrong??

The default blank slide should have a white background. But the program
background behind and around the slide is gray. You can change the color of
the slide, but not the color around it.

If your slide has a gray color, which you want to change: Did the
organization you are working for change the default slide color to grey to
meet their Corporate Design requirements?

Or do you need to calibrate your monitor? (This is most likely the case if
Word opens with a gray blank sheet, too.)

If you need to change the slide color, use "Format | Background" and use the
field with the small arrow next to it at the bottom of the dialog box to
choose a color.

Kind regards,
Ute
