I used to be able to enter a new contact in Outlook Express 6.0 and it would
appear on Microsoft Outlook 2000. [aka automatically sync'd] All I had to
then do is add a category to it. Well now I have Outlook 2003 and I can't get
a new contact in Outlook Express to appear. I'm having to enter each new
contact twice.

??????

Your memory fails you. Contacts added to OE would never synch with Outlook.
In the long abandoned Internet Mail Only mode of Outlook 2000, Contacts
added to Outlook could be synched to OE.
That feature no longer exists.

well Russ, I hate to disagree but I just went over to my other office
computer. I opened up Outlook Express [6.00.2900.2180] and entered a fake
contact {first, last, email] and saved it. I then maximized Microsoft Outlook
[2000 SP3 9.0.0.6627] and under CONTACTS was the contact, just as I entered
it in Outlook Express. It was easily located because it was the only contact
listed under Catagories (none).

I can't believe, one of the most important features has been discontinued???
It won't be too long before my Outlook and OE will be totally out of sync.

That's only because you had already enabled sharing. Once you did, you were
actually entering information into Outlook, not OE.
Sharing with OE has never been a feature in Outlook. It was transiently a
feature in IMO mode only because IMO did not have the ability to support the
Outlook Address Book and had to rely on Outlook Express to handle its
address book functions.

so, basically I need to just use Outlook 2003 for all my emailing and stop
using Outlook Express? I assume I can export all my messages and address book
for one last time and close it for good.

ok, sure hope this works............thanks

There is a registry hack you can use to force OE to use your Outlook
Contacts:
