Someone please tell me how to format my partitioned HD with Win XP pro
installed. My windows is stuffed and my repair install did not work. I
am getting faults with MSVC32i.exe and MSCRT.dll...IE explorer does
not work among other things.

If my HD has 2 partitions, and I do a format on C: , will it only
format C and not the other partition? I am thinking of saving my stuff
on the other partition and formatting C:

I hope someone has a simple solution as it is driving me crazy.

Thanks...Ed

Move what you want to keep to the other hard drive. Remember programs that
write entries to the Registry will have to be reinstalled as the Registry
will be toast.

Boot with the XP CD. Set the BIOS to look for bootable devices in the
following order FDD, CD, HDD.

Once the PC is rebooted, when the message

Press any key to boot from CD.....

appears on the screen, hit a key. Any key, spacebar will do.

Let Windows do it's thing. Ignore the F2 for the Recovery Partition, go
through the F8 and accept the EULA. It will give you an option to delete
the highlighted partition (and you WILL ensure that is the c:\ partition!).
It will then delete it, you can then ask the CD to recreate the partion the
same size and then format it and reinstall XP on that same partition.
Everyting you put on d:\ will still be there and be safe.

Once XP is installed, you may have to reassign a drive letter to d:\....
Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the following screen,
select Disk Management. The second partition should show up on the right
hand side of the screen and you can assign the drive letter there.
