How do I fix Outlook 2007?

Outlook 2007 has been sending a oneline email for the past 20 minutes and it
is still at 25%. I have tried a thousand time to set this up correctly.
When Outlook starts I get a prompt saying that it cannot find a connection
(although I am on line) and gives me the option of a dial up, off line or
lan. I select lan and then I get a prompt saying that it cannot acces my
mail account because the address is wrong, showing the current seteting with
a back slash at the end of my account. I cannot find where this is saved or
defined, but it is NOT in the email account settings. If I close outlook and
then try to reopen it, nothing happens.

I am affraid to remove the old outlook 97 and the other 97 office products
because if my upgrade can't find anything I will loose the hundreds of
dollars I spent on it because it wont beleive I am entitled to the upgrade.
I hope that there is really someone there that can help me address these
office issues.

Use Tools->Email Accounts... to configure your account.
After an upgrade it would be better to recreate your mail profile. For this
see;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm

You can safely remove all Office 97 products (I would highly recommend doing
so), since Office 97 isn't eligible for an Office 2007 upgrade anyway. This
means that you must have purchased a full version of Office 2007.

For an overview of qualifying products for using an upgrade version of
Office 2007 see;

As I said in my original post. I have purchased a "Qualifying" version of
Office 2007. It installed AFTER it verified that I had Office 97. As I also
said. Setting up my email account is NOT changing the fact that a back slash
is being attached to the account when Outlook starts up.

I was thorough in my first post and the actual issue has not been addressed.
Anyone can just point to an online resource and say "try this". How about
some real answers from Microsoft. I need a clean machine but they are
actually preventing me from having one. Since I can't get any responses from
Microsoft I was hoping someone here can help with the hundreds of issues
regarding my setup.

If I had uninstalled Office 97 BEFORE installing Office 2007, it would have
rejected the install as it would not have found a qualifying version of the
previous release. Mine is an UPGRADE.

If you want a real answer from Microsoft you should ask them by calling
them. This newsgroup is a peer-to-peer newsgroup provided by Microsoft but
not actively monitored by Microsoft Product Support.

As I said (and referred to by using an official source) Office 97 isn't a
qualifying upgrade base, so wherever you upgraded from; the installation
didn't allow you to continue because you had Office 97 installed; must have
been something else.

If you've recreated your mail profile and it still modifies your account
setup configuration you probably have a virus scanner installed that
integrates with Outlook. They often modify the account information so that
the virus scanner can act as a mail proxy between your ISP and Outlook.
Disable this integration (see the documentation of your virus scanner for
this) and see if the issue is resolved now.
