My computer failed to restart after a Win XP update
downloaded from the net. It will not start with any of the
standard options such as safe mode etc. I can get access
to the disk using the setup repair function, but how do I
fix the boot.ini from here?

I've been looking through MS support pages for days now
and no joy finding a solution there, so any help will be
very gratefully recieved!!

Thanks in advance,

Kal

You may try to repair a damaged boot sector by doing this:

1. Insert your Win XP cd in your drive and restart the computer.
2. At the welcome screen select " R". This will start the recovery console.
The screen will switch to black and you will asked which installation to log
on. If you have just one installation press 1 and enter. Then you will asked
to enter your adm password. Press enter.
3. At the C:\Windows prompt type FIXBOOT and press enter. Then answer " Y".
4. Restart your computer.

This will repair your boot sector.

Please let me know if it helps!
