I know that you can sometimes find an icon by checking
somedirectory\favicon.

What I would like to be able to do is just take the one in the cache
and copy it to my icon directory. How can I find the one in the cache?

How would I get Google's icon saved as just an icon file on my
computer?

TIA

When you add a site to your favorites, the icon (favicon) is downloaded to
Drive:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files
and it will show up next to that site in your favorites list. Once you empty
the cache, the favicon is deleted and replaced by IE's blue e icon.

If you want grab Google's icon and Google is in in your list of favorites,
remove it from that list, empty your cache (easier to find later), surf to
Google, add it to your favs, navigate to above mentioned path, drag it out.
