how do i locate a saved power point file that i work with which i received as
a email attachment which i did not save before i started working with it

You probably won't! Open PowerPoint, click the "File" menu. If you can't
see the file listed at the bottom of that menu in your "recent files" list,
it wasn't saved. When you open an attachment directly from Outlook it wants
to save it in some obscure location under your Documents and Settings folder
that Outlook has set up. You ALWAYS want to do a "File", "Save as" as soon
as you open a file or from within Outlook select your message, click "File",
"Save Attachments" and out it in a folder you normally use or have set up.

If you want to search for a file, try this:

1. Open Windows Explorer by holding down the "Flying Windows" key at the
lower left of your keyboard and pressing "E". Release both keys right after
that.

2. Make sure your "C" (hard drive) is selected to the left to do the search
on.

3. Click the "Search" button on the top menu. Click "All files and folders"
(only required on newer versions of Windows).

4. Click the "More advanced options" and make sure the "Search subfolders"
is checked.

5. Click the "Type of file" dropdown and scroll down and select PowerPoint
files.

6. Click the "Search" button.

Once the search is done you can click the "View" menu at the top and select
"Details". This allows you to see what folders files are in, what their
dates are, etc.

Good Luck!

chances are the file is saved within your "temporary internet files"

on a windows xp pc this is normally along the lines of

c:\documents and settings\your unique username\local settings\temporary
internet files\ loads of other folders

have a search for a file ending in .ppt or .pps

You also might want to check your deleted email files if you don't have the
"Empty messages from Deleted Folder on exit" selected
