How do I filter Mail Merge Recipients by Outlook Categories?

I am trying to do a mail merge with MS-Word & my Outlook contacts.
However, I only want to merge the contacts that have a certain category.
But when I follow the steps in the Mailk Merge process, and get to the stage
where I can select recipients, I don't get the option to select by Category
(although I seem to be able to select by most other fields).
Is there a way to do this?
 
Start in Outlook Contacts. Select the people, then Tools|Mailmerge
etc....
