how do I export the names in a distribution list?

I have been using my distribution lists as an email list. It has not been
very efficient, and my emails end up getting put into junk mail folders. I
have downloaded a list serv program and now I need to export the distribution
lists as a comma separated file for the new software. Unfortunately, I have
not been able to find a way to export the names from the DL.
 
You can't.
Just save it as a txt file and convert that to a CSV file.

been reading your replies for a few hours now. I appreciate your time.

I have tried to save the DL as a .txt file, but it is full of so much
gibberish that I am unconfident I can preserve the data. Is there some sort
of translator or something? I don't know very much about this. Sorry.

Probably the easiest thing to do is open it as a text file and clean it up
so that the name of the DL is removed and that each column of data contains
the field name in the first row. You should then be able to import this file
as a CSV file. If not, then open this file in Excel so you can convert it to
a CSV file.
