Look at the documentation for your wireless router. You want to implement
WPA or WPA2. Failing support for that, consider WEP (even though its
strength is weak, it is still better than nothing)

First get a new keyboard. You will need one that doesn't have flaky
keys so you can correctly enter the stored password to logon to the
configuration page of your router.
If you no longer have the paper or file copy of the manual for your
wireless equipment, whatever UNNAMED components they be, the
manufacturer probably has copies you can read or download from their web
site. We can't tell you how to configure equipment that you neglect to
identify. There is a good chance the product's documentation says how
to enable encryption.
As suggested earlier in this thread, look at your wireless router's
configuration guide. There will probably be information on how to configure
the XP client.
The client configuration is dependant on how the router is configured.
No easy answer, sorry.
